Early integration of refugees in EU labour markets highly desirable, says the ILO

On 18 November, ILO-Brussels hosted a panel debate at the European Parliament on the integration of refugees in the EU labour markets, addressing both opportunities and challenges. In advance of the meeting, the ILO shared a background note.
The event was attended by over 100 people who welcomed the fruitful exchange of views. Speakers included experts from the ILO, the European Commission, the European Parliament, UNHCR, the EU social partners, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) and the German Public Employment Service.
While the first panel discussed the policy dimension of integration, the second panel focused on practical experiences. Without denying the challenges, all panellists agreed on the importance of ensuring a quick labour market integration of refugees.
