Diplomatic missions meet to better protect migrant domestic workers

BEIRUT (ILO News) - In the framework of the project ”Promoting Rights of Migrant Domestic Workers” – funded by the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation - labour attaches and representatives of diplomatic missions are meeting on Friday (May 17) to discuss ways of promoting consultative dialogue and eliminating recurrent problems facing migrant workers. Participants will discuss challenges and opportunities facing migrant domestic workers at the level of the recruitment process, and elaborate the role of the embassies and labour offices in handling workers in grievance procedures.
Participants include representatives of the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Kenya.
