Domestic Work Project

Development of a National Action Plan for the Domestic Work Sector

The Domestic Workers Project held a workshop from 23 - 24 February 2015 at Lake Safari Lodge in Siavonga.

27 March 2015

The objective of the workshop was:
  1. To facilitate stakeholder input into the development of a comprehensive tripartite national plan of action (NPA) for the domestic work sector ;and
  2. To consolidate a strategic collaborative plan for interventions to be implemented by social partners in 2015.
The workshop was attended by members of the Domestic Work Sector Tripartite Plus Technical Working Group (TPTWG) comprised of government, workers' organisations, employers' organisations, Labour Institute of Zambia and other key stakeholders. The multi-year NPA (2015 - 2021) will focus on improving the policy and legal framework, with ratification of C189 as a key priority; capacity strengthening of sector institutions for them to effectively contribute to addressing the sector needs; and sustaining awareness raising on rights and obligations of both domestic workers and their employers. The awareness raising component of the NPA is closely linked to the sector communication strategy developed by the project in collaboration with the TPTWG in December 2014.
