Cyprus ratifies the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190)

GENEVA (ILO News) – On 4 March 2025, Cyprus deposited the instrument of ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190), with the Director-General of the ILO, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo.

The ratification ceremony took place at the ILO headquarters, in the presence of Cyprus’ Permanent Representative, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ms. Olympia Neocleous.

Convention No. 190 is the first international labour standard to address violence and harassment in the world of work comprehensively and affirms the fundamental right of individuals to a world of work free from violence and harassment. Together with Recommendation No. 206, it establishes a framework for action, and a unique opportunity to shape a future of work based on dignity and respect.

The ratification of Convention No. 190 by Cyprus marks a significant step in the global fight against violence and harassment in the world of work. By taking this decisive action, Cyprus strongly conveys that everyone has the right to a world of work free from violence and harassment. This ratification reflects a firm commitment to dignity and respect at work, reinforcing protections for everyone in the world of work, particularly women and those in vulnerable situations. The ILO stands ready to support Cyprus in translating this commitment into specific measures that will make workplaces safer, fairer, and more inclusive.
