3 January 2023

Mr. Lars Johansen, Deputy Director, ILO, Mrs. Ingerlyn Caines-Francis, Senior Programme Officer, ILO, Her Honour, Mrs Indira Demeritte-Francis, President, The Industrial Tribunal of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and Dennis Zulu, Director, ILO
An ILO team comprising Director, Dennis Zulu; Deputy Director, Lars Johansen; and Senior Programmer, Ingerlyn Caines-Francis met with Industrial Tribunal President, Indira Demeritte-Francis in December 2022. President Francis gave a tour of the newly opened “Smart Court” which was designed by the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions. In addition to revamping the physical design and logistics of the Tribunal, the “Smart Court” also addresses the reconfiguration of case management systems, e-filing, performance management, and training (i.e., technical as well as dispensation of duties). The system is constantly being reviewed and refined to improve service delivery and system support. The ILO acknowledged that the Tribunal is well-placed to share lessons learned with Caribbean counterparts and pledged support to a 2023 initiative that will bring together regional tribunals and courts to learn from The Bahamas experience.
