Course on Labor Inclusion with a Gender Approach, a commitment to change

Bogotá - For Angi Velásquez Velásquez, director of the Public Employment Service Unit, the participation of the ILO in the development of the Labor Inclusion Course with a Gender Approach was of vital importance to obtain a high-quality product. During the launch, which took place virtually on August 25, 2021, Velásquez appreciated the help provided by the organization and highlighted the importance of the tools that were adopted for each module of this project.

The course was created with the objective of “strengthening the capacities of the network of providers and the personnel of the SPE Unit to promote employment relationship and work environments with a gender perspective”. The event was attended by authorized providers and servants of the SPE Unit, to whom the course is directed and who will be able to access it for free.

The course has a lot of tools. For example, the first module was developed with the technical assistance of the ILO from materials extracted from the following programs: SCORE Program and the SCORE Gender Equality Module (MIG SCORE) (funded by SECO and Norad), Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean, CERALC (funded by the European Union and implemented by the ILO, OECD and UN Human Rights), the Forming for the Future project (funded by the Ministry of Labor of Colombia) and the Salary Equality Course: International Training Center of the ILO.

The first module aims to “understand the relationship between human rights, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and gender equality in the world of work”. Likewise, the rest of the modules are mainly made up of tools taken from the SCORE Gender Equality Model (MIG SCORE). Either to study concepts such as decent work and the main International Labor Standards (NITS), or to learn how to apply the "labor inclusion model with a gender perspective and employability path".

The five modules that make up the course have diverse materials such as videos, documents, as well as trainers who will be willing to teach and evaluate the process of each participant.

Martha Bustamante, an ILO certified SCORE Trainer, explained that the SCORE Gender Equality Module (MIG SCORE) was designed to be effective, simple and powerful. The MIG SCORE has a 'toolbox' that allows the methodology and materials to be used to create training on specific topics, as well as diagnostic studies on gender equality within companies, economic sectors and/or specific territories.

In the words of Bertha Lucia Carolina Trevisi Fuentes, national coordinator of the SCORE program in Colombia, during the Academy of Productivity and Labor Conditions in SMEs - Bucaramanga 2020, "MIG SCORE is a practical and simple tool that strengthens managerial competencies to promote better practices within companies". She adds that "it is an innovative model that ties management with working conditions and productivity".

Thanks to the fact that the Labor Inclusion Course with a Gender Approach was created using some of the MIG SCORE tools, concepts such as decent work, International Labor Standards, ILO Convention 190 on the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work were included. The C-190 is the first international regulation that addresses violence and harassment in the workplace.

This is one more example of the importance of adopting the tools of models such as MIG SCORE and promoting all gender equality initiatives in work environments.
