Climate Change and Labour Mobility in Pacific Island Countries Policy Brief published

The Policy Brief was prepared under the Pacific Climate Change Migration and Human Security (PCCM-HS) programme, which aims to narrow the gap in understanding the link between climate change and labour mobility.

The brief provides an overview of labour mobility in the context of climate change, discusses the impact of labour mobility on climate change adaptation and makes recommendations for policy design, labour mobility programmes and research. And is based on a desk review of working papers, research publications, academic articles, policy briefs, reports and other publications produced by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and other organisations.

The PCCMHS programme is a joint-agency programme that seeks to protect and empower communities adversely affected by climate change and disasters in the Pacific region, focusing specifically on climate change and disaster-related migration, displacement, and planned relocation .

The programme is jointly delivered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Labour Organization (ILO), Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and UN Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), as well as Pacific Island governments, New Zealand Development Cooperation Programme and the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security.
