Charting a Path to Success through fostering social dialogue and collaboration on Labour Migration in Kenya
Second Technical Working Group (TWG) on Labour Migration

The Second Technical Working Group (TWG) on Labour Migration, took place on July 05, 2023, in Naivasha, Kenya. The meeting was attended by participants from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) relevant to labour migration governance in Kenya. This inclusive approach ensured a comprehensive representation of all key parties involved in labour migration governance.
The meeting was centred on taking stock of ongoing initiatives related to labour migration in Kenya. Participants were provided with updates on both the progress made in the implementation of priority areas set during the 1st TWG meeting and upcoming initiatives, enabling them to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state and future plans. This thorough review of different labour migration projects/programmes empowered the TWG members to offer well-informed recommendations for effective implementation in the future.
During the TWG meeting, participants received updates on key areas relevant to labour migration in Kenya. These updates included insights into the outcomes of the ILC 2023 Meeting, progress on the Kenya Migrant Workers Welfare Fund, updates on the ratification of conventions C181, C189, and C190, the launch and usage of the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) by COTU, developments related to Bilateral Labour Agreements (BLAs), the National Employment Policy, and the Job Fair. Additionally, participants were informed about proposed initiatives by the BRMM project, such as the establishment of a Saudi Model House in Mombasa, AIMS Certification training, and the Rapid Assessment of Business Development Services and Financial Services.
The meeting fostered synergy and collaboration among stakeholders involved in labour migration governance. The sharing of ongoing and planned initiatives served as a platform to enhance cooperation and coordination, ultimately improving the overall effectiveness of labour migration management in Kenya.
By promoting closer partnerships and knowledge sharing, the meeting enhanced the overall effectiveness and efficiency of labour migration governance. In addition, the TWG meeting generated focused momentum towards improved labour migration management in Kenya, consolidating efforts and directing resources towards achieving positive and sustainable outcomes in the field.
