Cambodian vocational instructors gain green technology skills

PHNOM PENH (ILO News) – A new training initiative to prepare Cambodia’s workforce for green and future-ready skills is underway with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Aimed at addressing skills gap, and in response to global climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions, the initiative brings 30 vocational instructors from across Cambodia to China for a ten-day course on new energy vehicle (NEV) inspection and repair.

Jointly organised by the ILO/China Partnership Programme on Skills Development, Cambodia’s Skill Development Fund and the Beijing Industrial Technician College, the training runs from 17 to 28 November 2025 at the Beijing Industrial Technician College.

The curriculum combines hands-on technical modules, including power battery systems, intelligent network technologies, and maintenance, with training on instructional design to ensure participants can effectively transfer their knowledge to students and technicians upon returning home.

By 2028 , the initiative aims to create a multiplier effect, enabling the 30 trainers to disseminate their skills to more than 1,000 people across Cambodia. Additionally, this initiative marks another milestone in the deepening framework of South-South cooperation under the ILO/China Partnership Programme. Supported by China’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the South-South Cooperation Skills Development Network has facilitated curriculum development, teacher exchanges, and innovation, connecting 41 vocational training institutions in Cambodia, China, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and beyond.

Equipping them with the knowledge and tools they need is essential for leading Cambodia’s green transition. Skills are the bridge between aspiration and opportunity, and this programme is building that bridge.”
