Cambodian experts gain new skills in China

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (ILO News) – Cambodian skills experts are positioned to play a crucial role in elevating vocational education and skills training in the country, having successfully concluded a capacity-building programme in China with support from the ILO.

Supported by the ILO-China Partnership Programme, six Cambodian skills experts including government officials and lecturers have recently undergone rigorous training in web design, graphic design, and welding at the Hainan Technician College, in Hainan, China.


The programme, which included workshops, hands-on training sessions and knowledge exchange, was designed to enhance the experts' knowledge, skills, and teaching techniques. Its main objective was to provide the Cambodian experts with insights into the latest teaching methodologies and curriculum development strategies, with a specific emphasis on international skills competitions, where participants from different countries showcase their vocational and technical skills in a competitive setting.


“Cambodian experts are now better equipped to contribute to the development of Cambodia's skills development ecosystem, aligning with the nation's vision for a highly skilled workforce capable of excelling in both domestic and global job markets,” said Ms. Keovanlay Phanthavong, ILO-China Partnership Programme.


The Hainan Technician College is a member of the South-South Cooperation Skills Development Network. In line with the Belt and Road Initiative, this initiative leverages South-South Cooperation in skills development and collaboration in vocational education between Cambodia and China.
