Building relations with social partners through leadership programmes

Officials from the Namibian Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare visited the ILO Pretoria Offices on a two-week learnership programme.

Johannesburg (ILO News): Officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare in Namibia visited the ILO Pretoria Office on a 2_week learnership programme that focused on labour market issues.

The main objective of the visit was for the Officials to learn more about how ILO supports its social partners in different areas.

During the two weeks they learned:
  • How the ILO supports the Ministry at different levels in line with the country’s commitment to to SADC, AU, ILO, ILC and the UN.
  • The link between the country priorities in line with ILO priorities.
  • How different specialists in the ILO provide support to social partners in line with national priorities.
During the visit, ILO's engagement in the areas of entrepreneurship was highlighted since one the high challenges in the country is high unemployment rate. Agreement was reached for the ILO to provide training in entrepreneurship for young people in the different areas of the country.
