Bicycle rally against human trafficking and child labour

(ILO/LPN/MTV Exit, Bangkok ) Labour Rights Promotion Network (LPN), supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and MTV Exit, will launch a bicycle rally from Prachuap Khiri Khan Province through four provinces to Samut Sakhon from 26 to 29 June. The aim is to raise awareness on the fight against child labour and human trafficking.

The rally will start on Thursday 26 June by the City Pillar of Prachuap Khiri Khan town where about 150 bicylists and persons will take part. They will bike through Hua Hin District, Petchaburi Province (on Friday 27 June) to Ratchburi Province (Saturday 28 June), arriving in Samut Songkram. In each province there will be activities involving the governors and relevant local authorities.

This will culminate in a major event in Samut Sakhon on Sunday 28 June with a panel discussion, concert, cultural shows and exhibitions at the Talat Talay Thai Auditorium. Activities will be held throughout the day from 09.00 hours to 17.00 hours. Additionally there will be educational and health booths. There will also be presentation of awards for competitions in drawing, slogan and clay work on the theme: “Stop Human Trafficking, Stop Child Labour”. Entry for all events is free.

There will be live music performances by many well known artists. The Governor of Samut Sakhon Province will be amongst the distinguished guests to show his support. About 1,000 persons are expected to join the campaign. A detailed programme is attached.
