Belarus: Celebrating the Centenary of the International Labour Organization
A tripartite conference “Tripartism and Social Dialogue in the World of Work” organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) took place in Minsk on February 27, 2019.

The tripartite forum commemorating the ILO’s centenary was attended by members of the National Council on Labour and Social Issues, the country’s main social partnership organisation, the tripartite Council for Improvement of Social and Labour Law, as well as ILO representatives Kari Tapiola, Special Advisor to the ILO Director-General, Oksana Wolfson, legal officer of the ILO International Labour Standards Department, and Gosha Alexandria, representative of the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The conference was also attended by Alexander Yaroshuk, leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP), Sergey Antusevich, BKDP Deputy Chairman, Nikolai Zimin, Chairman of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union (BNP), Sergei Cherkasov, leader of the Independent Miners Union at Belaruskali Company, and other trade union leaders.
The conference was co-chaired by Irina Kostevich, Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus, and Kari Tapiola, ILO.
The participants discussed how to promote social dialogue and improve the system of social partnership in Belarus, exchanged the experience of organising social dialogue and tripartite cooperation in Belarus and other countries, and became familiar with the ILO principles and standards in the area of social dialogue and tripartism.
Yelena Dovgan, Vice President for Academic Affairs of the MITSO International University, presented an overview of the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Work Report “Work for a Brighter Future”.
During their stay in Minsk, the ILO representatives also attended a meeting of the Council for Improvement of Social and Labour Law at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on February 26, 2019 whose agenda included the issue of concluding and applying tariff and local agreements in Belarus.
