Azerbaijan seeks ILO’s expert help

3 June 2014. This issue was discussed at the meeting between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslimov and ILO Director-General Guy Ryder on the sidelines of the 103rd session of the International Labour Conference underway in Geneva from May 28 to June 12.

Azerbaijan actively cooperates with the ILO and conducts reforms in the world of work, employment and social protection. Having ratified 56 conventions of the ILO Azerbaijan kept a check on compliance with international standards and occupational safety principles, Muslimov said.

Successful experience in cooperation between the ministry and the ILO was a significant incentive for development, he said, adding that his country’s main tasks were to develop labour market and increase the quality of labour resources, to improve wage policy, to hold a survey of informal employment among population, in particular among young people, and to create a monitoring system.

Azerbaijan needed cooperation with the ILO in all above-mentioned aspects, Muslimov said, inviting Guy Ryder to visit Azerbaijan.

The ILO chief in turn praised Azerbaijan’s activity in the world of work and youth employment and expressed his intention to visit Azerbaijan.

Salim Muslimov and Guy Ryder also discussed deeper cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ILO.
