Johannesburg, South Africa, 27 April 2020 – On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which takes place each year on 28 April, the African Union Development Agency - NEPAD and the International Labour Organization (ILO) and partners are hosting a webinar for Safety and Health at Work in Africa. The Africa webinar will take place on Tuesday, 28 April 2020 from 13:00 – 15:00 (CAT) under the theme: “Stop the Pandemic: Occupational Safety and Health can Save Lives”. The commemorative webinar will focus on saluting health workers in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amine Idris Adoum, AUDA-NEPAD Director, Programme Delivery and Coordination, who will be speaking at the webinar says, “We honour all health-care workers and express our gratitude for the critical role they play in providing high quality care to our communities, especially now as the world is faced with COVID-19 pandemic.”
The webinar speakers also include Tibor Szana; Chief Inspector, Occupational Health and Safety, Department of Employment and Labour, Republic of South Africa; Dr. Ahmed Ogwell Ouma, Deputy Director, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); Sabelo Mbokazi, Head of Labour, Employment and Migration Division, Department of Social Affairs, African Union; Ehi Iden, President, OSHAfrica; Joel Odigie; Deputy General Secretary, African Regional Organisation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa); and Grace Nabakooza; Head of Employment Relations and Legal Services at the Federation of Uganda Employers, as nominee of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE).
