The conference brought together young trade union activists from Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. ILO Moscow Senior Specialists in Workers’ Activities Sergeyus Glovackas, adviser at the Pan-European Regional Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-PERC), Anton Leppik, and Professor at Moscow State University Tatyana Razumova made expert reports at the conference.

Youth employment remains one of the most pressing problems on the agenda of the largest global forums. Employment trends look disappointing – the youth unemployment rate in most countries is rising from year to year, bringing social tensions, low development of society and other negative consequences.

During several days of the conference its delegates exchanged information on the state of affairs in their countries and regions and studied activity of the International Labour Organization and the International Trade Union Confederation to resolve problems of youth employment.

Participants saw a presentation of the ILO project Partnerships for Youth Employment in the Commonwealth of Independent States, which made this conference possible. On the first day of the conference its delegates visited Red Barricades Shipyard near Astrakhan, where they learnt about the enterprise’s strategies for training young employees, its staff and social policies.

The conference concluded with the drafting of youth employment promotion recommendations for regional and national action plans and the creation of a youth trade union network of the Caspian Sea Region that would ensure closer coordination of trade unions to resolve problems young people from three Caspian littoral states - Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan that had strong political, economic, cultural and historical relations - were facing.
