ARLAC to address Decent Work in the Global Supply Chains

LIVINGSTONE (ILO News) – Ministers of Labour and social partners of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC), senior ILO officials and experts, will attend a high level symposium to discuss and reach a consensus on how best to promote Decent work in the Global Supply Chains.

The aim of the Symposium is to reflect on existing policy frameworks and legislation in ARLAC member States for the promotion of decent work in the global supply chains. Participants will also identify decent work deficits in the global supply chains and propose potential future promotional and capacity-building activities in the sub-region.

"Supply chains are global and we need to implement efficiently the decent work agenda. Sub-regional cooperation is necessary to ensure decent work conditions across the globe", Hopolang Phororo, Director of ILO Country Office for Zimbabwe and Namibia said.

The objective of the 42 Ordinary Session of the ARLAC Governing Council Meeting is also to develop strategies for the effective governance of Global Supply Chains and prepare key recommendations for a common position for the General Discussion on Global Supply Chains to be held during the International Labour Conference in June 2016.

ARLAC is a training center based in Harare, Zimbabwe that provides coaching for labour administration officials from its 19 member countries (predominantly Anglophone Africa). The Centre also provides consultancy and advisory services, undertakes research and publishes training materials in the area of labour administration.
