Africa: Women in the world of work
The ILO will mark the 2017 International Women's Day by joining the UN Women, the European Union and the African Development Bank (AfDB) in a high level panel dedicated to women and equality at the workplace to be held on March 09 2017 at the the Houphouet Boigny University of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

ABIDJAN (ILO News) – On the occasion of the celebration of International Women's Day, the International Labor Organization (ILO) is joining the UN Women-European Union partnership in Côte d'Ivoire for a key debate on women in the workplace, equality and empowerment for national development.
This debate, under the patronage of the Ministry of Women, Child Welfare and Solidarity, will bring together about 150 participants, including students, women entrepreneurs, representatives of Civil society organizations, development partners, the media, as well as actors involved in supporting the participation of women in the world of work.
Among the panellists who will lead the debate:
In Egypt, the ILO will hold a media launch and a press conference in the office to present the ILO/Gallup report, in partnership with UN Women in Egypt and the National Council for Women.
In Tanzania, the ILO will issue a joint statement with UN WOMEN and act as a keynote speaker at an East African Community event.
In Zimbabwe, the ILO will participate in a roundtable promoted by the Ministry of Women under the theme: “The Woman we want is: Bankable, Business Minded, Brainy, Beautiful, Bold, Blessed and Balanced”.
In Zambia, the ILO will present key findings around the national discussion on “Promoting Inclusiveness in Economic Participation as a means of attaining Sustainable Development”.
In Cameroon, the ILO will take part in a debate on "the challenges of equality between women and men in the world of work" organized by the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedom. In partnership with UN Women and the National Investment Company, it will introduce the legal and policy framework as well as current initiatives including actions on women's entrepreneurship.

- Mrs Fatime Ndiaye, Senior Gender Specialist, International Labour Office.
Planned activities
In Nigeria, the ILO will be part of a panel organised by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs on the role of the ILO under the theme of Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030. In Ethiopia, the ILO was invited by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to discuss “Women’s saving culture for the country’s renaissance”.
