Advancing human rights at work – A reflection of year 2016
ILO Tanzania has continued focusing on bringing the positive impact to the community in different areas; this include supporting the Government to protect the most vulnerable groups in our communities as part of initiative to fostering the human rights at work agenda.

2016 has been a significant year in advancing fundamental principles and rights at work for Tanzania. Efforts made by ILO country programme in Tanzania has successfully managed to get-started for the ARISE programme, a programme focusing on reduction of child labour in tobacco growing communities. By the end of year 2016 ARISE programme achieved an impressive results following development of child protection committees in two highly Tobacco growing districts in the country. A remarkable sustainable achievement is the decision made by these districts to include child protection activities in their annual plans and budget.
As part of our continued efforts, ILO Tanzania hosted a Brazilian delegation to discuss the work plan of the South-South Cooperation programme on decent work in cotton. Their visitation was an opportunity to learn how they have succeeding in the fight against child labour through labour inspections and an advanced social protection system.
We further started supporting the review of the National Action Plan on the Elimination of Child Labour which will be finalized in 2017. Please open the link below to reflect on what had happened in year 2016 around the world including Tanzania.
