Action My Business Growth: ILO Training for Women Entrepreneurs in Malawi

Women entrepreneurs make an important contribution to the development of the world economy, particularly in low and middle-income countries. According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, female-owned firms are generally smaller than male-owned firms, in terms of the number of employees and the income generated, and tend to grow much slower than the male owned businesses.

The Action My Business Growth (AMG) tool targets women in the formal economy. It is designed to support women entrepreneurs and help them identify potential solutions and strategies to initiate the growth process in their businesses. The Action My Business Growth (AMG) training places particular emphasis on women entrepreneurs whose businesses have growth potential, aiming to contribute to job creation and decent work.

The AMG training took place in Katoto Teacher Development Centre (TDC) in Mzuzu, Malawi on 9th February, 2012. It was conducted by Ms Ndindasi Kumwenda, an ILO accredited Women's Entrepreneurship Development (WED) Expert, and attended by 15 women entrepreneurs with a growth orientation.

This training was organised through WEDGE-SA, a project supporting women's entrepreneurship development in Southern Africa and funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
