‘I Support Equality’ Seminars for Working Women and Men continue as a part of ILO Project
‘I Support Equality’ seminars organized under the project ‘More and Better Jobs for Women' project had its round with the employees of Kadıköy Municipality on 2-3 February 2017.

‘I Support Equality’ seminars organized under the project ‘More and Better Jobs for Women: Women’s Empowerment through Decent Jobs in Turkey’ implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Turkey to build awareness in gender equality had its round with the employees of Kadıköy Municipality on 2-3 February 2017.
Delivered under the motto ‘I Support Equality,’ seminars attracted a large number of Municipal employees, both women and men and topics covered concept of gender; gender roles; consequences of gender inequality in social life and employment; gender equality at workplaces; and best practices from Turkey and from the world.
Speaking at the meeting, Kadıköy Deputy Mayor Bahar Yalçın said the majority of employees in the Municipality are women and these seminars constitute the first step in their envisaged work in the field of gender as Municipality.
Seminars will be repeated in Kadıköy Municipality on 13-14 February 2017.
In cooperation with municipalities, trade unions and the private sector, seminars of the ILO Office-Turkey have so far been delivered to women and men working in Çankaya Municipality, with the participation of Deputy Mayor Gülsün Bor Güner, Ankara World Ophthalmology Hospital, and Seger Sound and Electrical Appliances Incorporation.Seminars are planned to continue in cooperation with trade unions and companies like Hak-İş and Alarko in February 2017.
The project is implemented by ILO with the financial support of Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and seminars are delivered by Women’s Human Rights: New Solutions Association (KİH-YÇD) as part of the project. Seminars aim to ensure the protection of the rights of working people and to contribute to the creation of fairer, safer and more productive working environments by building awareness in gender issues and encouraging institutions and agencies concerned to develop gender equality policies.
The objective is to enhance the awareness of employees in municipalities, trade unions and private sector firms in gender equality and equality at workplaces, which is expected to empower employees and support capacity building efforts by parties concerned.
Seminars of the ILO Office-Turkey will continue in project provinces, Ankara, Bursa, Konya and İstanbul through the private sector, municipalities and trade unions with the target of reaching over 1,200 employees, both women and men.
Participants are awarded certificates at the end of seminars.
