This document presents a compendium of the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s work in the inland waterways sector from 1949 to present. It includes sectoral instruments (one recommendation), conclusions and resolutions adopted by the Inland Transport Committee, outcomes of a global meeting and, Rhine specific meetings convened by the ILO.
Part 1 includes a sectoral recommendation that was adopted by International Labour Conference in 1920.
Part 2 includes general work of the ILO Inland Transport Committee (1945-1992) applicable to all inland transport sectors.
Part 3 includes specific inland waterways work of the ILO Inland Transport Committee, as the Committee had the inland waterways under its purview. During this period, it adopted nine resolutions and one set of conclusions pertaining to the inland waterways sector.
Part 4 includes the outcomes adopted by one meeting of experts for inland waterways convened outside the auspices of the Inland Transport Committee. This meeting was held in 1968.
Part 5 includes the outcomes of a number of regional Rhine specific meetings that were convened by the ILO from the 1950s to the 1970s (held in 1950-1954,1961, and 1979). Thereafter, this work has been continued throughout the following decades by the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine.
