Media accreditation
16 April 2019
For Geneva-based correspondents already accredited to the UN
The ILO no longer requires a specific ILC press badge for journalists accredited by UNOG to access the Palais premises of the Conference that are open to the press. They will be allowed into the press gallery of the Assembly hall on 6th floor, or in overflow rooms, by presenting their UN press badge showing a valid date, including during visits of high-level guests. However, they will not be allowed in any other ILO Conference rooms with the UNOG Press badge only and are requested to strictly follow the procedure in section “Room Access” below should they wish to access the plenary floor or the other ILC meeting rooms.
To access the ILO building, UNOG-accredited journalists should announce themselves ahead of their visit via the ILO Department of Communication (DCOMM). Access to the Conference Committee on the Application of Standards is not possible without being accompanied by a staff member of the ILO Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM).
For correspondents not accredited to the UN
To obtain accreditation for the conference, and in order to speed up the entry process, correspondents should complete an accreditation form to be completed online with all information requested (including a valid passport , a copy of a valid professional press card and a letter of assignment from the Editor-in-Chief of the media concerned). The online accreditation platform will be activated on 2 May 2019. Journalists who may require assistance from the ILO to facilitate entry visas for Switzerland should send a request by e-mail to [email protected] along with the exact dates of the intended visit, a copy of a valid passport , a copy of a valid professional press card and a letter of assignment from the Editor-in-Chief of the media concerned. The subject of the message should mention VISA & ILC.
Journalists should collect their badges upon their arrival at the registration office at the Prégny Gate of the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The issuance of a badge is subject to the presentation of the passport referenced in the registration form. Further details on the location and opening hours of the registration office will be made available in due course. The badges also give access to a specific shuttle bus for visitors and media which runs between the ILO building (R2 North – parking P1) and the Pregny Gate at the Palais des Nations.
Journalists wishing to bring in photo or video equipment to the Palais des Nations or the ILO should inform DCOMM in advance and be prepared to pass through a security check point at the Palais des Nations with their equipment.
Room access
During plenaries, the ILC press badge and the UNOG press badge give access to the press gallery on the 6th floor of the Assembly Hall or overflow room.
Video journalists and photographers who want to film on the floor of the Assembly Hall should make a request to the press office specifying the time and date they wish to enter. Please note that for security reasons, filming on the plenary floor is limited and requires a DCOMM staff member to be present. (Please see below how to access the floor of the Assembly Hall during High-level visits)
Access to all other ILC meeting rooms at the ILO and at the Palais (including the main floor of the Assembly Hall) is not allowed even outside high-level visits unless accompanied by a staff member from DCOMM.
A specific badge will be required for those journalists (especially photographers and videographers) wishing to access the main floor of the Assembly Hall during high-level visits. Badges can be requested in advance for each session by contacting DCOMM, as in previous years ([email protected])
