For millions of poor people in South Asia, migration is an important livelihood strategy to escape poverty for themselves and their families. Bharti Birla, National Project Coordinator for ILO’s Work in Freedom programme, says that millions migrant workers risk facing exploitation and abuse and being trapped in situations of forced labour. Often the quality of jobs is severely compromised.
