Building peace, empowering communities through livelihoods in Mindanao Philippines

Decades of armed conflict in Mindanao has affected people’s lives and livelihood, fuelled poverty and hampered inclusive and sustainable growth. The International Labour Organization (ILO), in partnership with the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) has implemented the Programme for Local Economic Development through Enhanced Governance and Grassroots Empowerment or PLEDGE in 2012-2016.

Funded by the Mindanao Trust Fund (MTF), PLEDGE has supported confidence and peace-building efforts through local economic development. The Mindanao Trust Fund is a multi-donor grant facility by the European Union, Sweden, Australia, Canada, United States, New Zealand and the World Bank.

PLEDGE as the first enterprise programme of the BDA, has piloted tools and strategies to build peace through sustainable livelihoods, enhanced institutional capacities and community ownership.
