FAQ about the Estimates of the work-related burden of disease and injury, 2000–2016

The first joint estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Labour Organization (ILO) evaluate the number of deaths and Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY) for 41 pairs of occupational risk factors- health outcome. The 19 risk factors evaluated were responsible for the deaths of at least1.9 million people per year. The majority of work-related deaths were due to respiratory and cardiovascular disease. The key risk was exposure to long working hours (>55 hours per week) and air pollution (particulate matters- gases- fumes).
