World’s longest-running strike resolved through collective bargaining and ILS

With ILO support, the dispute at Fiji’s Vatukoula gold mine was resolved after more than 30 years. A 1991 strike over poor pay/conditions endured for decades; 190 strikers passed away. In 2024, a settlement with compensation was reached, affirming the role of international labour standards.
