UK Commonwealth and Development Office highlights progress of Better Regional Migration Management programme in Kenya
A UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) annual review mission to Kenya assessed progress under the Better Regional Migration Management (BRMM) programme, meeting government institutions, implementing partners, and returnee migrant workers to review achievements, challenges, and ongoing priorities in labour migration governance and economic reintegration.
2 December 2025
From 25–27 June 2025, a high-level delegation from the UK FCDO visited Kenya to assess progress under the BRMM Programme. The mission met with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the National Employment Authority, and BRMM implementing partners.
Discussions focused on legislative and institutional reforms, including the Kenya Migrant Workers Welfare Fund, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) system, the Saudi Model House, and Migrant Resource Centres' support. Partners highlighted progress in reintegration, access to finance, and evidence from a BRMM-supported tracer study.
Field visits to returnee businesses showcased the impact of Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) training, coaching, and loan support. The mission reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration to promote fair, safe, and productive labour migration in Kenya.
