Uganda LMIS Workshop Paves the Way for Comprehensive and Dynamic Labour Market Information System (LMIS)
Achieving the integration of Labour Migration Indicators into the development process of the Ugandan LMIS.

The Second Data Production Workshop for the Uganda Labour Market Information System (LMIS) took place in Kampala, Uganda from 22nd to 23rd of March 2023. The workshop focused on achieving the integration of Labour Migration Indicators into the development process of the Ugandan LMIS. With participation from key stakeholders, including government ministries, departments, agencies, social partners, private employment agencies, and returnees, the workshop drove tangible outcomes and paved the way for a comprehensive and dynamic labour market information system.
The workshop successfully integrated labour migration indicators into the Ugandan LLMIS and enhanced the capacity of the participants, by equipping them with the necessary skills to collect and analyse accurate data. The integration of labour migration indicators into the LMIS, along with enhanced data collection and stakeholder engagement, contributes to the availability of reliable labour market information, supporting evidence-based policy making to foster a robust and inclusive labour market in Uganda. This integration further enhances the comprehensiveness of labour market data, providing an inclusive understanding of the labour market landscape in Uganda.
The workshop further improved data collection and analysis methodologies, in addressing challenges related to obtaining information on migrant workers through ordinary sample surveys. It explored potential data sources, identified key data gaps, and discussed strategies to improve the quality and depth of labour migration statistics in Uganda. By strengthening stakeholder engagement, the workshop fostered collaboration among various government ministries, departments, agencies, social partners, private employment agencies, and returnees. This comprehensive participation ensures effective governance and decision-making in labour migration.
