Uganda Celebrates World Day Against Child Labour and Day of the African Child

These celebrations are crucial in highlighting the persistent issue of child labour and promoting efforts towards its eradication. The events, held annually on June 12th worldwide, saw vibrant participation from children, community members, and local leaders.

Despite budget constraints faced by district local governments, the community development departments successfully mobilized development partners and pooled resources to make these celebrations a reality. The events not only underscored the importance of protecting children’s rights but also fostered community engagement in addressing child labour.

Jinja District Celebration

Location: Buwera Primary School, Buwenge Sub County

Jinja district’s celebration at Buwera Primary School saw the participation of over 300 children from different schools in the district. The event was attended by more than 100 stakeholders from the community, sub-county, and district levels. The gathering emphasized the community's commitment to fighting child labour and promoting the welfare of children

Iganga District Celebration

Date: June 29, 2024

Location: Nabitende Sub County

Iganga district concluded the series of celebrations with an event in Nabitende Sub County. Over 200 children from local schools and 200 stakeholders participated in the festivities. The event showcased the collective efforts of the community and local leaders in advocating for children’s rights and striving to eliminate child labour.
