Sudanese woman in a host community in East Darfur starts her business based on the market needs

Suaad Mohammed Ahmed Abkar, 30, takes care of her three children, her elderly mother, and her husband on whom she used to depend financially. Within the past year, she said to herself, “I am starting my business at home by producing Taamia, a popular egyptian recipe, and selling near my home. Then, I am shifting to a local market.”

Working in the local market, Suaad built good relationships and discovered the market needs, leading her to generate her new business idea: a fruit and vegetable trade.

In order to start the vegetable trade, I needed to have more money, so worked hard to generate this money from Taamia sales, then little by little I reached my dream.

Suaad succeed in renting a place in the Assayala weekly market where she started her business, “RAKUBA.” She buys a few vegetables and fruits from small local producers, and most of her suppliers come from the Nyala. Nowadays, Suaad earns more than 400,000 Sudanese Pounds from her weekly vegetable sales at the local market twice a week and at the Assalya weekly market with a net profit of 150,000 Sudanese Pounds.
