Dakar (ILO News) – Held under the theme “Fighting violence and harassment in the world of work,” this initiative aimed to inform the general public and encourage the ratification of Convention No. 190 of the International Labour Organization, a key instrument for ensuring safe and respectful working environments.
To date, Senegal has not yet ratified Convention No. 190, although discussions are ongoing between the authorities, social partners and international organizations to accelerate the process.
More than 2,000 people took part in the mobilization, walking through the streets of the Senegalese capital for nearly two hours. Through this large turnout, participants expressed their commitment to fundamental rights at work and to a professional environment free from violence and harassment.
Samira Daoud, Director of the ILO Office in Dakar, welcomed the strong mobilization of participants and partners. She emphasized that this action is part of an ongoing process of awareness-raising and advocacy aimed at eradicating violence and harassment in the workplace.
She also stressed the importance of ratifying Convention No. 190, which she considers a decisive step toward strengthening the protection of workers. According to her, incorporating the Convention into national legislation would help promote fairer and more dignified working conditions.
This mobilization, marked by its inclusive and participatory nature, received wide media coverage, helping to amplify its impact among the general public. It forms part of a series of initiatives led by the ILO and its partners to advance social justice and respect for labour rights in Senegal.
