Media training on child labour reporting in Malawi

A comprehensive training program for media personnel was recently conducted across Malawi's three regions—North, Centre, and South. The training, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour's Child Labour Unit and the International Labour Organization (ILO), aimed to equip journalists with a deeper understanding of child labour issues and enhance their reporting on this critical topic.

During the two-day training, participants engaged in sessions covering the global and local child labour situation, legislative and policy frameworks, and the roles of various child labour structures. The ILO presented on its Global Coalition for Social Justice and the ACCEL Africa Project, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat child labour. Additionally, practical sessions were held to improve the accuracy and impact of child labour reporting.

This initiative was part of the broader effort to strengthen national advocacy and communication strategies, ensuring that media coverage effectively supports the fight against child labour in Malawi.
