ILO supports Ethiopia’s participation in the Sub-Saharan African Skills and Apprenticeship Stakeholders Network to enhance cross-learning and regional collaborations in Sectoral Skills Development and Recognition of Prior Learning

Within the framework of the Sectoral Skills Council Development in Ethiopia, ProAgro Ethiopia project facilitated a group of Government and social partners from the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Skills, and the Trade Unions to participate in the experience sharing in Accra, Ghana from 21-24 November 2023 convened by the Sub-Saharan African Skills and Apprenticeship Stakeholders Network (SASASNET). The Workshop discussed the role of public-private partnerships for effective sectoral skills development, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in skilling and upskilling, and strategies for formalization of apprenticeships to enhance employability and meet industry demands.


The network formally recognized Ethiopia’s keen policy engagements on these topics as a gateway to equipping youth and women to access better and decent employment.

ProAgro Ethiopia is supporting the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour and Skills (MoLS) in a pilot initiative to establish the Sector Skills Council in agro-processing sector which will provide lessons learned to establish other sector skills bodies. ProAgro Ethiopia has mobilized resources and experts from the ILO and external institutions, including the learning and exchange through a South-South Cooperation Framework with South Africa, Indian, and China. The SESANET is an added value to Ethiopia’s active engagements.
