Dodoma, Tanzania (ILO News) The International Labour Organization (ILO) proudly participated in the 10th Anniversary celebration of the Workers’ Compensation Fund (WCF) in Tanzania, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening social protection and workers' rights. The event, held at EWURA Hall, Dodoma, brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, labour representatives, and social security experts, to reflect on a decade of achievements and chart the way forward.

A Decade of Progress in Workers’ Compensation

Since its establishment on July 1, 2015, WCF has played a pivotal role in enhancing workplace safety, compensating injured workers, and promoting social security policies that align with ILO conventions and global labour standards. The Hon. Ridhiwani J. Kikwete (MP), Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities), officiated the event, acknowledging WCF’s impact on labour welfare and economic resilience.

During the celebration, ILO representatives, Mr Dampu Ndenzako engaged in high-level discussions on strengthening social protection mechanisms and ensuring that workers receive adequate compensation and rehabilitation support.

ILO’s Continued Support for Workers' Welfare

ILO commended WCF's contributions over the past decade, highlighting key achievements such as:

  • Strengthening financial security for workers affected by occupational injuries.
  • Enhancing social protection policies to ensure fairness in compensation schemes.
  • Fostering partnerships to promote decent work and safe workplaces in Tanzania.

As part of its global mandate, ILO will continue working with WCF and national stakeholders to improve policy frameworks, expand worker coverage, and reinforce social security systems to safeguard labour rights in Tanzania.

The 10th Anniversary celebrations will continue through June 2025, featuring awareness campaigns, stakeholder dialogues, and policy development initiatives aimed at strengthening workers' compensation schemes.
