This year’s commemoration is particularly important as this is the first time that governments, employers and workers’ organizations from around the world had a tripartite stance on this topic and charted the roadmap on decent work and care economy.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) marks the International Day of Care and Support 2024 by spotlighting the Resolution concerning decent work and the care economy, adopted by the ILO International Labour Conference in June 2024. The care economy is vital because it supports the overall functioning of society and the economy by providing essential services, like childcare, eldercare, healthcare, and household management. Despite care workers providing essential services, they often face long hours, low wages, and unsafe working conditions. Care economy entails a holistic, sustainable, and equitable economy where everyone can thrive.
