ILO holds training of trainers workshop on occupational safety and health in Syria

Damascus (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) has conducted a week-long training of trainers (ToT) workshop on occupational safety and health (OSH). The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of 20 labour inspectors, many of them women, to effectively enforce OSH regulations and improve working conditions. The trained labour inspectors became equipped to provide comprehensive training across different governorates in Syria.

The Syrian Arab Republic was the second Arab country to ratify the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, No 155. However, the country has faced significant challenges in implementing the convention.

The agenda included sessions on international labour standards, OSH fundamentals, national legislation, occupational risks, and site visits to construction sites and factories. The practical exercises and site visits provided hands-on experience, enhancing participants' ability to identify and mitigate workplace hazards effectively.

Upon completion of the training, participants were granted certificates, enabling them to deliver high-quality training and inspection services across various governorates.
