FESTU sensitizes trade union leaders on Somalia’s Labour Migration Policy and PrEAs Regulations

From 10 to 12 March 2026, the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), with support from the ILO through the UKFCDO-funded BRMM Programme, convened a strategic meeting and sensitization workshop in Mogadishu on Somalia’s National Labour Migration Policy (NLMP) and Private Employment Agencies (PrEAs) Regulation.

During the workshop, participants reviewed key provisions of the NLMP and PrEAs Regulation, both adopted in 2025, and discussed their implementation, alignment with international labour standards, and the role of trade unions in promoting fair recruitment and protecting migrant workers. Discussions also highlighted the role of Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) and FESTU’s efforts to organize migrant workers, which have reached approximately 30,000 workers in Somalia and abroad.

The workshop concluded with the adoption of a workers’ action plan and advocacy roadmap to strengthen labour migration governance, improve migrant worker protection, and enhance coordination between trade unions, government institutions, and Migrant Resource Centres.
