Emerging Insight: A preview of the year ahead
11 February 2016
- New public-private partnerships. Together with the Global Action Network (GAN), we will launch a new community of government champions to drive agricultural index insurance. Also, in health insurance, we will partner with national health insurance programmes in Kenya and Ghana to expand access to health insurance in the informal sector.
- A new take on client value. This year we will refresh our client value assessment tool (PACE) and make it more quantitative and easier to use. As part of this exercise, we will support the GAN to design a comprehensive client value assessment tool adapted for agricultural index insurance, combining existing approaches to assess basis risk, contract quality and client value.
- An integrated Capacity Building Programme. Our new programme includes a global and local approach, with a global executive education course and a drive to double the size of our network of local training institutes. Both will leverage face-to-face and e-learning training courses to create impact.
- New innovation partners. This year will see at least 10 new innovation partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa in partnership with AFD and FSDA. We will test a range of innovations, from bundled products for small businesses with some of the largest banks in Sub-Saharan Africa to embedded risk transfer solutions to improve productivity in the tea value chain in Kenya and the cocoa value chain in Cote d’Ivoire.
- Expanded markets. We will expand our Microinsurance Acceleration Funds (MAF) to new countries, including Senegal and Tanzania. The MAF has proved to be a successful model to stimulate innovation and introduce new products in Zambia.
