Catch up on five of our top insights from 2015:
- Making claims (data) pay. Claims data provide insight into underlying patterns of illness, the treatment-seeking behaviour of clients, and the status of health services accessible to clients. An analysis of the claims data for three health microinsurance schemes from South Asia show striking results.
- Innovative collaboration. Pooling resources to deliver agricultural insurance in Senegal resulted in steady growth, from 65 farmers in 2011 to 8,500 farmers in 2014.
- Graduating mandatory clients to voluntary buyers. Is it possible to sell voluntary products to borrowers once they’ve had some experience with mandatory credit life? The results from Allianz Life Indonesia suggest it is.
- Position carefully to complement, not compete. Pioneer in the Philippines rebranded its hospital cash product as income replacement insurance and boosted its sales efforts. As a result total enrolments increased from 5,502 people in the first year to 140,627 in the second.
- Why do farmers underestimate risks? Evidence from the Kenya Financial Diaries indicates that households underestimate impacts of shocks that are not in the form of new cash expenses.
