Adaku Deborah Nnamdi is a 27-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur from Lagos. She created her business named “BBQ Spot” to sell different food specialties, including barbecue, catfish, and roasted chicken, among others. The business was initiated with the idea of satisfying people around the neighbourhood, and it reached only local customers who already knew about the store or who passed by it while walking nearby.
After noticing the business’ low number of clients reached, Adaku decided to participate in a SIYB training with “Digitalise your Business” (DYB) topics. The training oriented her to use social media platforms to improve the business’ online visibility and for advertisement purposes. Likewise, the workshop provided her with knowledge on selling online.
The training helped me to upgrade to a digital business to reach as many customers as possible. I did not know the advantages of digitalization before I attended the DYB training. After adopting social media platforms and other tools to digitalize my business, I saw an increase in orders and sales."

The main platforms Adaku has been using to improve her business’ online presence are Whatsapp and Facebook. She uses these social media tools to promote her business, sell online and get feedback from clients. BBQ Spot now accepts both physical payment and e-payment. As an effect, the business increased sales, augmented clients’ satisfaction, and improved marketing strategies.
