Awareness Against Human Trafficking Vital Role in Anti-Trafficking Efforts
21 February 2024
In the ongoing battle against human trafficking, every step forward is significant. HAART (Awareness Against Human Trafficking), an organization dedicated to combating human trafficking in Kenya and an implementing partner of the ILO CAPSA Project, took part in a follow -up and project monitoring mission to Kajiado County. This mission, which took place on February 21st, focused on sensitizing stakeholders on child labour and human trafficking, among other critical issues.
One of the key highlights of the mission was the meeting which was held with the Kajiado County Executive Committee Member for Public Service, Administration, Social Services, Citizen Participation, and Inspectorate Services. During the meeting, discussions revolved around the pressing needs of Kajiado County in relation to child labour and human trafficking and potential opportunities for partnership. By engaging with local authorities at this level, HAART aims to continue fostering collaboration that is essential for effectively addressing the complex challenges posed by human trafficking at the county level.
Moreover, HAART's involvement extended to sensitizing the community of Olooroi Primary School in Namanga Division. This engagement was particularly poignant as it addressed concerning issues such as children not attending school and early pregnancies, which are often linked to vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking. Through sensitization sessions and screenings for potential cases of child trafficking, HAART sought to raise awareness and identify those in need of assistance.
The collaboration between CAPSA and HAART has had a profound impact on anti-trafficking efforts in Kajiado County. By facilitating engagement with stakeholders at governmental and community levels, CAPSA has created vital platforms for raising awareness about human trafficking and fostering solutions. Through strategic partnerships and focused interventions, CAPSA is actively working towards preventing human trafficking in the region.
Reflecting on HAART's involvement in CAPSA's mission in Kajiado County, it becomes clear that the ILO CAPSA initiative goes beyond mere awareness-raising; it is a catalyst for change. Through empowering communities, partnering with authorities, and supporting those in need, it significantly contributes to the battle against human trafficking.
