The Approach to Inclusive Market Systems Certification Programme

The Approach to Inclusive Market Systems (AIMS) Certification Programme held in Bishoftu City, Ethiopia, from April 24th to 28th, 2023, denoted a substantial milestone in the pursuit of inclusive economic development. 23 experts from Ethiopia and Kenya embarked on a transformative journey, immersing themselves in a five-day intensive face-to-face training.
Through this certification programme, participants experienced an enhanced understanding of market dynamics, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to identify suitable sectors for potential migrants and returnees and conduct comprehensive market systems analysis. Through theoretical sessions, case studies, and practical exercises, they gained insights into establishing partnerships and designing interventions that generate decent employment opportunities.
The programme emphasised the practical application of the AIMS methodology. Further to the face-to-face training, participants were challenged to conduct an AIMS assessment in a context of their choice, undertaking primary research and integrating their findings into an analysis report. This hands-on fieldwork assignment allows participants to showcase their proficiency in applying the methodology and bridging the gap between theory and practice. Successful completion of the assignment and a final written test will result in participants being awarded the ITCILO certificate of achievement for the AIMS programme, recognising their expertise in conducting market systems analyses and designing programs for the economic integration of vulnerable populations.
The AIMS Certification Programme facilitated collaboration, knowledge exchange, and economic integration of marginalised populations. The programme not only deepened participants' understanding of market dynamics but also empowered them to make a tangible impact.
