African Labour Attachés in the Gulf Strengthen Capacity to Protect Migrant Workers

From 14–17 April 2025, a four-day capacity-building training was held in Doha for African Labour Attachés posted across the Arab States. The training aimed to enhance their ability to promote and protect the rights of migrant workers in line with international labour standards and the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

The programme strengthened participants’ skills in monitoring compliance with labour laws and international standards, promoting fair recruitment, and addressing the specific needs and vulnerabilities of women migrant workers. Labour Attachés were also equipped to better support migrant workers in navigating grievance mechanisms, accessing remedies, and receiving accurate information. In addition, the training reinforced their role in improving pre-departure training curricula and advocating for policy reforms to address protection gaps and systemic barriers.

These interventions represent a vital step toward safeguarding migrant workers’ rights, advancing fair labour migration frameworks, and ensuring strong adherence to international labour standards across the region.
