Apprenticeship systems are increasingly recognised as a key element to tackle the youth employment crisis.
The ILO supports the implementation and strengthening of apprenticeship systems throughout the Arab region. Based on an ILO methodology that was tested in Africa, the ILO upgraded informal apprenticeships in both Jordan and Yemen. The ILO is also implementing a similar project in Syria as part of a child labour intervention. In Jordan, in addition to supporting the establishment and strengthening of a national apprenticeship system in the country, the ILO has piloted a dual system to short term training for more than 1,500 Syrians and Jordanians.
