Access to accurate information: Empowering the migrant worker to make a choice about labour migration
This video features the positive behaviour change at community level, attributed to awareness raising and extension of referral services extended by the representatives of trade unions, trained under the ILO-REFRAME project. It is aligned with national efforts to enhance Pakistani migrant workers’ access to trustworthy information on fair recruitment and to protect them against abusive practices.
With a view to conduct outreach at the grassroots level, the REFRAME project in collaboration with the Pakistan Workers Federation selected and trained a group of 37 (6 women) vibrant trade union leaders from across Pakistan. The trained leaders cascaded the information sessions in their respective constituency and trade union meetings. The PWF supported establishing Resource Centres for migrant workers at 30 district offices to extend guidance and referral services. Through interaction with trade unions; awareness sessions hosted in the communities, training centres, schools and the provision of services to visitors at Resource Centre for Migrant Workers (established at 30 district offices of PWF); the project reached 4,500 direct beneficiaries, and more than 150,000 indirect beneficiaries through word of mouth, social media, websites and messaging apps.
