Women in leadership: research on barriers to employment and decent work for women. Literature review

To provide a summary of the scholarship on gender inequality, labor market participation and barriers that women face in accessing the formal economy and from within the formal economy.

It initially focuses on global trends of labor force participation, beginning with a discussion of general theories predicting labor force participation. It then delves into the methodologies that scholars use to assess the presence and the magnitude of labor market discrimination. Next, it discusses the barriers that women face in seeking employment, both from the perspective of the transition into formal employment and from the perspective of adverse conditions within the formal market that disadvantage female employees.
