Digitalization of employers and business membership organizations

Where are employers’ organizations on their journey toward digitalization? A look at Uruguay

This technical note is part of the collection of notable experiences in the digitisation of business enterprises and employers' organizations (EBMOs) in Latin America, identified in the research process carried out by the ILO Bureau for Employers' Activities (ACT/EMP) for the preparation of the 2022 Regional Report "Where are business organizations on the journey towards digitisation, A look at Latin America". These remarkable experiences should inspire other EBMOs in their transition to digitalisation. The Chamber of the Digital Economy of Uruguay (CEDU) is an industry association that brings together the main actors of the country’s digital economy, from both the public and private sectors. More than serving as an example of a traditional employers’ organization, CEDU is itself an initiative aimed at promoting the digitalization of the business sector, particularly in the area of e‑commerce. It was created in 2015 with the purpose of strengthening e‑commerce, disseminating knowledge and providing training, and representing the country’s digital economy ecosystem.
