Everyday many young people cross the border into Thailand from neighboring countries hoping to earn money for themselves and to send some back home to their families. Some however are abused by employers, tricked into jobs they did not agree to do, or not paid the amount of money that was agreed when they were hired. Some have their wages unfairly withheld and in some cases they are not allowed to leave their places of work – with no way to escape and no one to call for help. When there is coercion or deception involved, and the abuse is serious, it can be classified as human trafficking. This is a crime in Thailand.
