Stories from the SOLAR Project

Nearly all Lao agricultural workers are informally employed, and just 5 per cent have any form of insurance. This can have heavy consequences, with 70 per cent of Bolaven Plateau farmers reporting being injured at work every year, with women more likely than men to sustain such injuries.

Against this backdrop the SOLAR Project worked to raise awareness of workers’ rights, social security, occupational safety and health, collective bargaining, and gender rights in farming communities. These are the stories of some of the project’s Lao partners and beneficiaries.
